About Faro
Faro means "lighthouse." A steady light that helps you find your way — and find your people.
Why Faro exists
Finding your community as an LGBTQ+ person isn't always easy — especially if you're newly out, new in town, or just tired of apps that treat connection like a swiping game. Most "queer" apps are built around dating. Faro isn't.
Faro is about community: the local groups, events, and friendships that make a place feel like home. No swiping, no pressure, no pretending to be someone you're not. Just real people near you, and an easy way to find them.
Built by one person
Faro is made by Dragon Group Studio — a one-person indie studio. Every feature, every screen, and every late-night bug fix comes from a single developer who cares deeply about getting this right for the community it serves.
That means Faro grows a little differently than a big-company app. It ships in focused, thoughtful updates rather than all at once. When you send feedback, it reaches the person who actually builds the thing — and it genuinely shapes what comes next.
How Faro is built
A few principles guide every decision:
- Community first, always. Faro is a place to belong, not a marketplace for attention.
- Safety isn't optional. Reporting, blocking, image moderation, and clear community guidelines are built in — and the tools to keep yourself safe are free for everyone, forever.
- Respect your privacy. No ads chasing you around, no selling your data. Faro asks for what it needs to work, and nothing more.
- Free at its core. Posting, groups, events, and messaging are free. Faro+ is an optional way to support development and unlock a few nice extras — never a wall around the community.
The journey so far
Faro started as an idea: what if there were a warm, local, community-first home for LGBTQ+ people that had nothing to do with dating? From there it grew — a community feed, local and interest-based groups, real-world events, friendly Waves and messages, and profiles where you can show up as your true self.
Along the way came Friends, on-demand translation so language is never a barrier, and Faro+ for the folks who want to help keep an independent app independent. Each update is shaped by the people actually using it.
Where Faro is headed
Faro is still early, and there's a lot ahead. The roadmap is guided by one question: what helps people connect and feel at home? Areas being explored include:
- Richer profiles and ways to share more of who you are
- Better tools for groups and event organizers
- More ways to discover the community and activity near you
- Continued investment in safety and moderation as Faro grows
Plans evolve as the community does — so if there's something you'd love to see, say so. It matters.
A note from the developer
Thank you for being here. Building Faro is a labor of love, and every person who joins, posts, or sends a kind word makes it better. If you have an idea, a bug, or just want to say hello, I'd genuinely love to hear from you.
Light the way with Faro. 🌈
